My experience with Overstock.com has been extremely disappointing on more than one occasion. They entice customers by low prices and then, once you have ordered the book from them, you hear nothing more about it for weeks on end! If you contact their customer service they simply tell you to wait out the entire 4 weeks (the maximum period it takes for delivery to occur) and then re-contact them. Then they tell you to wait another 4 days until they figure things out before giving you your refund!! I ordered a book from them and a friend ordered the same book from them a couple days after me: she got hers in 3 days but mine never arrived in over 3 weeks!! Meanwhile I had to make do without the book for 2 crucial exams. I would NEVER use Overstock.com again!!

I ordered several times from Overstock.com and usually received my items in a timely manner. However, I ordered 5 calendars on Dec. 13 and they were shipped Dec. 14 and still not received as of Jan. 6th... I contacted the livechat customer service 3 times and was given three different dates to wait for until they would track my order. It went from Jan. 4th to Jan. 6th to Jan. 9th and I really no longer need the calendars for gifts, but they won't refund my money until I wait longer for delivery. When ordering, I checked "ground shipping" which I assumed was priority, however they were shipped media mail and I discovered, by later going to a separate webpage than the order page, that the items were shipped media mail. I would have upgraded the shipping if I had realized they were to be shipped ground mail. Even so, it has been way over the 15 business days they say to wait.

Pathetic in delivery commitment and clueless customer service.
I had ordered a book from the store and I am repenting that I did that.
Even the website indicated that the book is normally delivered 1-3 days. It was never shipped even after 15 days. The customer service had no clue about the status of the order and were sending messages to there warehouse to contact them and me. No one ever contacted me to give me any status.
Finally was forced to cancel the order after a long argument with their supervisor.
Don’t go to that site.

This is the first time I ordered with Overstock.com, and it will probably be my last. Complaints:
1. It took them 4 days to ship my book, even though they charged my credit card as soon as I placed the order, and even though the book was listed as one that "Usually ships within 24 hours".
2. When my book finally did ship, they didn't update the order status, so it remained "In Process" until I called a week and a half after placing the order to find out where it was. In fact, it is still listed as being "In Process", even though customer service assures me that it has shipped.
3. When I found out that the book had shipped, I asked for a tracking number. They said that they couldn't give it to me at the time, but that they would put in a request to send me the tracking info -- but that I'd probably get the book before the tracking information. Great.
So: no status + no tracking = no confidence. I doubt that I'll ever order from "the O" again.

1. The company is terrible with returns. I have lost money with them twice on trying to return something they shouldn't have sent in one case, and didn't send at all in the other.
2. I've recently noticed that the company is dumping a tracking cookie, picked up by my AdAware software, on my hard drive. No permission asked to do this, but there it is.
Bottom line, beware dealing with this company.

I don't get it. I've NEVER had any trouble with these guys. I almost inevitably buy books from them, but I've gotten housewares too. Great prices, Very low shipping. They can be a bit slow on getting books to you, but I've never had anything not come, and never had any occasion for complaint.

I find it hard to believe that so many people have given this company an awful rating. Every time I have ordered a book from Overstock it has arrived on time and in perfect condition. I have purchased from them at least a handful of times now and intend to do so in the future. It's unfortunate that bestbookbuys.com doesn't offer a show ip address option for rating messages, then we could see if multiple poor ratings are coming from the same person without opening anyone up to spam. It's my opinion that there is some abuse of the ratings system here because I doubt Overstock could get all of my orders right and so many others terribly wrong.

Ordered this book on August 26th. After three weeks of not hearing anything I called customer service. They said it was coming. Two weeks later, I still hadn't seen it. Called customer service again - they would check on it. On October 5, I received an e-mail that my order was never communicated to the warehouse for fulfillment and they are crediting my credit card, but do I want to order it again from them? Not in this lifetime. I will NEVER use this company and will discourage others.

Do NOT order from these folks!! First off, I ordered a book from them and they shipped me the wrong one. It took several communications with them before they sent me a return label for it (I had to ask at least twice - maybe three times - before they actually sent it). Once I sent it back, I waited a month, and I had not yet received the item, so I called them yet again, and they said I should have received it and that it would be going out in the mail soon - I had to call again - and it finally got here, close to three months after I ordered it!

Half my order arrived within 7 days. After a month I inquired and was told the remaining books were out of stock. After 6 weeks and a third inquiry I finaly got a refund. You should see the responses I got, my 3rd grader is more articulate, and uses better grammer. I will NEVER shop here again, their business practices are dishonest.

I have ordered many things from overstock.com and usually they ship faster than amazon.com, not to mention having way cheaper prices than anyone else on the web or in stores! I don't know how all these customers gave this site a bad review, I have never had a problem with them and their shipping is the cheapest around! Highly recommended!!!!!!!

Never got my book either. After one month of waiting, I sent an email asking what was going on and one week later, they emailed me back and said they didn't have it in stock and refunded my money. But they didn't even bother to let me know that it wasn't in stock. VERY, VERY BAD customer service. I'll NEVER buy from them again.

Never got the book. Took 12 days for them to notify me that they didn't have it in stock and refunding the debit. And the worst thing is, the book still shows up as available at their website when we do a search.
This is the worst company that I had to deal with....Never never... am I buying from them again.

I concur with the previous reviewer that the shipping process is slow and aweful. Here's what happened. Within a short period I bought seven books from them; all were in stock. Two of them were shipped promptly and arrived within a reasonable amount of time (2-7 days). Another two of them were shipped more than a week later after I notified overstock of the delay, and they also arrived in a timely manner.
My problem with overstock has to do with the fate of the rest three books. Those three books were shipped together prompty from an USPS facility <50 miles from me. After waiting for 2 weeks in vain, I emailed overstock about the situation, emphasizing that the books should arrive within two days given this short distance. I got a form email reply, ignoring my particular situation and insisting that I need to wait until 15 business days have passed. After 15 business days had finally passed, I called overstock to cancel my order and request a refund. They first told me no refund/return will be granted until they put a trace on the package and get the tracing results back(10-14 days). I argued with the phone rep for more than 30 min then finally spoke to a supervisor who promised me a cancellation and refund. Two days later, I got an email informing me that a new order for the same three books has been received. Immediately I called again to cancel and was told the refund was taken care of. Then the next day I got an email informing me the new order has been shipped. Immediately I called again and was offerred a UPS label for return shipping. Now, at the end of the fourth week since the order, I am out of $$ for the books that I have yet to receive and am waiting to return.
The lesson: Do not be lured by the low prices. In the end, it's really not worth it.

If you want to buy here because of the lower price, don't. Buy somewhere else. Their shipping is awful. I learned my lesson and I can absolutely tell you that I will never buy anything from overstock.com because they offer lower price. I rather pay a dollar or two extra than wait for more than two weeks now and still counting. Anyway, I hope you don't have to experience my disappointment.

I will not be ordering from them in the future.
I pre-ordered "The West Wing: Season 2" in early May. They charged my credit card that day, not the release date or the ship date, but whatever, they had the lowest price.
When my DVDs hadn't shown up a week after release and their web site had no further information (contrary to their stated policies on their other web pages), I e-mailed. The next day, one of the Mouseketeers wrote me back, brightly and blandly giving me no information.
DVDs show up and one is defective out of the box. Not Overstock's fault, but from there on it's been all downhill. I went back and forth with unnamed Mouseketeers whose first skill is not attention to detail. Examples: the promised ARS label never showed up, so I paid for shipping myself; one idiot wrote back asking for my first and last names and the order number -- but he had thoughtfully pasted my original e-mail below his own, showing my first and last names and the order number.
Good customer service happens when things DON'T go smoothly. These guys don't have it. If there are no problems with your order, no doubt you'll be pleased. If not, prepare to be in it for the long haul.
UPDATE June 8: I called this morning to find out the status of my replacement, which I still have not yet received. The rep told me they can only track this with my Priority Mail number, not the original order number or the RMA number, which seems ridiculous, so I'll have to do yet more leg work to help these people do their jobs.

Prior to my last order things were good. I had ordered several dvds and got them in reasonable time and order tracking was done. Now, I ordered a book and the web site said the status was shipped right away. However this time there was no tracking info and when I called, they said the cut their order tracking on small orders. The person said if I still don't have the item in 20 more days to call back and they'll reship the order. Yuck! Update: I did get the book in a very reasonable time, but was unpleased with the customer service I received.
