Tips for Music

  What does BestMusicBuys.com do?

We search the most popular online music merchants to help find you the best price on CDs, tapes, and CD singles.

How do I use Best Music Buys to find an album I want at the best price?

Step 1: Search for an album

Select Title or Artist from the pull-down box.

Enter your search information in the empty box and click on "Search" or hit RETURN.

Step 2: Identify the album you want

Best Music Buys will return a list of albums that match your criteria, including the title, artist, format, and release date. If you see the album you want, click on the link "Compare Prices" that appears to the left of the title. If you do not find your album, repeat your search using different information. Try using words or names as unique as possible.

Result: Compare prices

A list of stores selling that album will appear. The stores are listed in order by price, starting with the lowest price. Click on the "BUY" link next to a store name if you want to buy the book or want more information about the album and store. The store's web site will open in a new window where you can order the album.

Why can't I find what I'm looking for?
  1. You may have misspelled the name of the album or artist. Check the spelling of the album or artist, or try a slightly different search term.
  2. The album may be listed under a different artist name. Try entering the other artist's name or the album title in your search.
  3. The album may not be available through the stores we search. We search the Internet's largest online music retailers so we should be able to find all in-print albums. However, many out-of-print or hard-to-find albums may not appear in our member stores' databases.
  4. You may have found a bug in our search engine. Send us an email message with the search terms you used and tell us what happened.

Why does the same title show up several times in a search?
Record companies sometimes release several versions of the same album. Different versions of an album may include:
  • CD Single - 8cm CD-single disc as opposed to the normal 12cm CD-audio disc. Will only play on certain types of CD audio players.
  • Enhanced CD - Includes CD-ROM data readable by your computer. Sometimes also referred to as CD-Extra or CD-Plus.
  • Explicit - Version of the album with explicit lyrics.
  • Gold - Gold version of the CD. Will supposedly last longer than normal CDs.
  • Import - Import version of the album.
  • Non-Explicit - Version of the album with explicit lyrics removed. Some stores use the designation Edited rather than Non-Explicit.

Why can't I search classical albums?
You can search some classical albums on our site. However, classical music is an entirely different beast than other music formats so almost all online music vendors have different databases for their classical albums. We can't yet access the classical catalogs at the online vendors. However, we plan to add this capability in the future.

Is Elvis still alive?
Although we tend to believe published reports of his death on August 16, 1977, one can never be sure with all the reported sightings out there. Just to be sure, the staff at Best Web Buys eats fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches at least once a week. Check here for the latest Elvis sightings.
