Tips for Books

How to compare prices for books:

Follow the instructions below if you want to compare prices for a book.

Step 1: Search for the book

Select the type of information you want to use in your search. Select one of the following options from the drop-down box: the author's name, the title of the book, a keyword (a word that is in the title, author, or the book's subject category), or the ISBN (International Standard Book Number). Enter your search information in the empty box and click on "Search".

Note: A search using the ISBN number is the quickest way to compare prices and will allow you to skip step 2 below.

Step 2: Identify the book you want

Best Book Buys ® will return a list of books that match your criteria, including the title, author, book format (e.g. hardcover, paperback, audio, etc.) and publication date. If you see the book you want, click on the link "Compare Prices" that appears to the left of the title. If you do not find your book, repeat your search using different information.

Result: Compare prices

A list of stores selling that book will appear. The stores are listed in order by price, starting with the lowest price. Click on the "BUY" link next to a bookstore if you want to buy the book or want more information about the book and store. The bookstore's web site will open in a new window where you can order the book.

Book Formats:
Advanced Reader

An "Advanced Reader" is a trade paperback version of a book that was released to book industry insiders prior to the actual official release date of the book. A trade paperback has higher quality paper and cover from "mass market" paperbacks. When advanced reader versions pop up in our searches they will usually be used versions.

Library Binding

Any book bound in a relatively stiff cover, such as cloth-covered cardboard but does not include a dust jacket.

Trade Paperback vs. Mass Market Paperback

The trade paperback is usually larger than the mass market paperback and is generally printed on nicer, heavier paper, with sturdier bindings.

Turtleback

A paperback book with a hardcover binding placed over the original paperback binding.
