19th Century American journalist Joseph Pulitzer established the Pulitzer Prize as part of his will, as an incentive for excellence in the fields of journalism and letters (i.e. books.) The first Pulitzers were awarded in 1917. Listed here are the Pulitzer Prize winners in Letters in the category of General Non-Fiction since 1980. The Pulitzer Prize in Letters: General Non-Fiction was first awarded in 1962.
